Adelaide: interview format, dates, what they actually assess
Adelaide's medicine interview has not stayed in one format. Older cycles used a panel. The current Adelaide University page for 2027 entry describes a Multiple Mini Interview on Zoom.
Adelaide's medicine interview has not stayed in one format. Older cycles used a panel. The current Adelaide University page for 2027 entry describes a Multiple Mini Interview on Zoom. If you memorise that Adelaide is a panel from a 2018 thread, you will prepare for the wrong exam.
From 1 January 2026 the University of Adelaide and the University of South Australia operate as Adelaide University. Medicine is the integrated Bachelor of Medical Studies / Doctor of Medicine. Read the live degree page before you practise a single station. This article will go stale. The guide dated for your intake wins.

Current published format (2027 intake)
For the standard UCAT pathway, Adelaide University currently states:
- Interviews follow an MMI: a series of scenarios and questions, with a minimum of six stations lasting 10 minutes each.
- One interviewer per station.
- Interviewers complete an Adelaide University training program and may include employees, academic titleholders, alumni, health professionals, and members of the wider community.
- All interviews online over Zoom. There is no option for in-person, telephone, or another video platform. Requests for those are declined.
- About 600 applicants are invited. A minimum 50% of school-leaver interview invites are from South Australia.
- You book a timeslot first-come. All slots are in Adelaide time. Arriving late because of a time-zone miscalculation is not grounds to reschedule.
They say the interview assesses problem solving, communication skills, teamwork, empathy, integrity, preparedness for the program, cultural awareness, and motivation.
They discourage reciting rehearsed replies. They do not endorse commercial interview courses. Read that as: do not perform a script. Spoken structure is still the exam.
The public page says "stations lasting 10 minutes each" without splitting out a reading window. Do not invent a two-minute read because Monash publishes one. If your booking email specifies a read, use that.
This design has moved before. If the live guide or your invite disagrees with this page, throw this page out.
Pathways that are not this MMI
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander pathway. No UCAT ANZ. All eligible applicants are interviewed. Format: panel of three to four (largely Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander panellists: academics, clinicians, alumni). A yarn first, then about 20 minutes of scenarios and questions. Not the six-station Zoom MMI.
NCCS. No UCAT if you apply only to those codes. Ranking uses ATAR or IB plus interview. If you already sat an Adelaide medicine interview in the same cycle, that score is reused and you are not invited again. If you did not, there is a special NCCS interview round in late January 2027, with invitations in January on ATAR/IB alone. Dental or oral health interviews cannot be reused for NCCS medicine.
Rural background. UCAT is still required. Interview selection also considers Year 12 study location in published categories. Confirm the category order on the degree page. It is still the medicine interview unless the guide says otherwise.
Dates for 2027 entry
From the same degree page. Confirm there.
- 22 October 2026: interview eligibility email; booking system opens.
- 29 October 2026: booking system closes. After that, reschedules are not a right.
- Late November to December 2026: interviews.
- NCCS eligibility email: January 2027; NCCS interviews: late January 2027.
UCAT ANZ registration and the SATAC close sit earlier in the year on that table. Offers come through SATAC from January 2027. Adelaide says offers can continue until places fill.
How they rank, as published
Interview eligibility on the standard pathway is UCAT ANZ only, not ATAR. Sections 1 to 3 (Verbal Reasoning, Decision Making, Quantitative Reasoning) have equal weight. Section 4, Situational Judgement, is used only to separate candidates in the lower rank with an equal total on the other three. There is no Abstract Reasoning subtest in UCAT ANZ.
If you also applied to Adelaide dentistry or oral health and qualify for more than one, you sit one interview that covers the eligible programs.
Ranking for offers:
- UCAT ANZ results 20%
- Interview results 40%
- Academic score 40%
Minimum ATAR equivalent is published as 90.00. Adelaide is explicit that this is a floor, not a typical offer rank, and that they do not disclose previous ATAR cut-offs. We are not going to invent one.
What to practise
Practise an MMI: at least six spoken stations, about ten minutes each, on Zoom, one interviewer, no notes. What an MMI is still holds. Reading time only if your invite gives you a read.
If the university has moved back to a panel after this was written, switch using MMI versus panel. That is why we are not tattooing "always MMI" on this school.
Content: AHPRA's Good Medical Practice, not the GMC. Closing the Gap, Medicare, rural South Australian workforce, voluntary assisted dying as South Australian statute. Ethics and why medicine both fit a ten-minute station. Role-play only if your invite mentions actors; the public page describes scenarios and questions, not simulated patients.
After UCAT, the Sep-Dec timeline is the calendar. Eligibility lands 22 October. Booking closes a week later. That is a short fuse.
Do not use a third-party table that lists eight stations of eight minutes, a North Terrace room, or a UCAT cut-off. Those numbers are not on the Adelaide University page we used. If a figure is not on adelaide.edu.au, treat it as unverified.
MasterMed's first speaking station is free on /interview. No card. The trial never auto-converts. Use it to hear a timed station before 22 October, then re-read Adelaide's live guide the morning the email lands.
